What we offer
A specially tailored curriculum for your child leading to approved learning outcomes for children aged 9 months to 5 years.
Fun and friendship with children and other adults to build their self esteem.
We run a key worker system. This means each child has a special adult to take care of them and their learning. Children feel secure as they have their special adult to bond with, this makes settling into the group much easier. In addition, the key worker is in a position to tailor the group’s curriculum to the unique needs of each individual child
A typical day
9.00 - 9.30
The children are greeted at the gate, they come into Pre School, self-register and wash their hands. The children will then change into appropriate clothing for the Forest according to the weather requirements. The children are encouraged to think about what they need and prepare themselves for the day. Once they are ready, they head into the garden to play whilst they wait for their friends to be ready too.
9.30 - 10.00
We collect our equipment and rucksacks then we set off for our forest adventures!!!!
11.30 - 12.00
We pack up our camp, make sure the area we have used has been left as we found It, we have left no trace of our visit and we have not left danger for wildlife. We then head back to school for a well-earned rest and lunch. We have a circle time to talk about our morning and bid farewell to our friends who are going home.
12.00 - 13.00
We dim the lights play some calming music whilst we eat lunch and let our brains rest for a bit. Children are free to eat their lunch in their own time then leave the table when ready to start their afternoons learning. In warmer weather we will often eat outside.
13.00 - 15.00
Children can free flow between inside and outside activities. Depending on how the children feel we may return to the forest or the park for more adventures.
15.00
Home time, Is it that time already?
Learning journey
At Little chums we use Tapestry – an online Learning Journey.
An easy-to-use and secure online learning journal helping staff and families celebrate their children’s learning and development
Tapestry builds a very special record of a child’s experiences, development and learning journey through their early years and primary education. Using photos, videos, and diary entries, a teacher or early years educator, along with the child’s parents or carers, and the child themselves if they’re ready, ‘weaves’ the story of the child and how they are growing and developing. The Tapestry platform then works seamlessly to enable these memories to be kept as a permanent record of each child’s unique journey. All information held in the platform is stored securely and can be downloaded and shared as required. Parents or carers are able to view their child’s progress, the activities provided for them, and how much fun they’re having, whilst also uploading their own comments and media.
The communication between staff and parents that Tapestry enables, helps build a shared understanding of how every child can reach their full potential, from birth to the end of primary school. The Tapestry online learning journal is also available as an easy-to-use, secure app, meaning capturing key learning moments, and videoing milestones are even easier.
